FROM BEAN TO BAR AND BEYOND
Our small family-owned business is a beautiful love story between France and New Zealand. We handcraft bean to bar chocolate using the traditional French method, but with amazing Pacific-sourced cacao beans, for the wonderful people of Aotearoa and beyond. Our entire business is built on the belief that we should support Pacific farmers and elevate the status of Pacific-origin cacao to the recognition it truly deserves.
For nearly a decade, we have been perfecting our chocolate-making skills. Our founder, Thomas Capdevielle, spent four years studying in a prestigious chocolate academy in Southwest France and worked with renowned French chocolate makers. He climbed the ladder step by step, learning from the very best and gaining invaluable experience. After leading the kitchen of Honest Chocolate in the North Island of New Zealand, it was time for Coromandel Chocolate to shine.
It was only natural for us to return to the place where we found love. The breathtaking beauty of Coromandel constantly inspires our work as artisan chocolatiers.
Once our beans arrive in Whangamata, we begin the process of roasting, cracking, winnowing, conching, and refining our chocolate. This is our chocolate maker side. Afterwards, we take on the roles of melting, tempering, molding, sculpting, creating recipes, blending flavors with our origin profile, and sourcing organic and local products. This is our chocolatier side.
Both elements come together to create top-quality chocolate founded on principles of fairness, transparency, and a genuine love for the product.
But our mission goes beyond crafting chocolate. We wanted to open people's eyes to the power of chocolate and shine a light on the often dark side of the chocolate industry. This is a mission we share with our customers – to bring about change together.
